HISTORY

In 1983, St. Luke’s Hospital was purchased and incorporated into HealthWest Multi- Hospital Network. Proceeds from the sale of the hospital funded the new, nonprofit, public St. Luke’s Foundation, with a name honoring the tradition of health care the hospital had provided for nearly a century.

When the hospital closed in 1989, many of the original board members from St. Luke’s Hospital continued to serve on the foundation’s board. Today, the independent St. Luke’s Foundation is governed exclusively by local community leaders committed to continuing the original mission and tradition of leadership in health care for Whatcom County citizens.
